First post

I have always wondered about what I'd write on a Blog if I had one.......

It's 4.11am. I am awake and sitting on our 70s light green vinyl couch and wearing Explorer socks. I can hear my husband snoring through the bedroom door. I think you know it's love when instead of getting a meat tenderiser and aiming repeatedly for the head, you go outside into the cool kitchen/lounge/living room and make yourself a cup of tea.

I have a confession.....I seem to have bought a lot of most excellent stuff while in London. I didn't think I had bought that much but it seems to have just arrived like a unexpected and unwanted visitor. It must have been originally wanted as I don't buy crap for the sake of it. No way, not me. Let's see.....the books are a must have although I'm not sure how I ended up with 30 of them that are keepers. These select few are all essential items and will be accompanying me home to Australia. They are like my babies. The kitchen stuff seems to be growing exponentially although we still only have 2 coffee mugs which always seem to be dirty. I have two Australian flags which were gifts and an inordinate amount of alcohol. Electrical cords are out of control. As much as I try to stack them neatly in their home, a blue Ikea plastic box, Jason will come and go...'where is the phone charger'...I go 'in the cord box'...then 'I can't find it'...then 'it's there....move something....look in the bottom'. Then before I know it all the cords are unravelled and jumping out the box - celebrating their freedom.

Decisions on what to take home has depressed me. I have all this fantastic stuff and it is so expensive to ship it home. I have this FANTASTIC Egyptian tea set which I bought in a moment of madness at the khan-el-kahli market in Cairo. I said to Jason yesterday 'why in the hell did I buy that tea set? It is so tacky'. He comforted me and said 'I told you that it wasn't good but you still bought it'. He is so sweet. I wish he had taken up the offer of a million camels for me made by a sweet Egyptian man at the market. Jason is one of those people who can go into any store and come out only with the item he went in there for....in fact, I have seen him go into a shop for sour cream and come out with only sour cream! Who does that? Absolutely insane! Twelve years on and I still wonder at how he does it. He is so lucky to have me.
